Around the Outside of the Wall Free-Kick

This tutorial will teach you everything you need to know about scoring curled free kicks around the outside of the wall. You will learn vital info such as who can take these kind of free-kicks as well as where you need to aim and what kind of power to use. You will also find additional information and tips in the written guide such as what kind of free-kicks were giving me the best success rate when experimenting.

The Around The Wall Free-Kick is an excellent way to score from free kicks as it has a good conversion/consistancy rate and also looks quite sexy when you pull them off right.

Who?

Players with good FK Acc. & Curve stats can pull this Free-Kick off with the highest level consistancy. Having a higher curve stat will also increase your player’s ability to curl the pull goalwards which means you can better perform this free kick from closer distances.

Having the FK Specialist Speciality will also help your player’s free kick conversion rate.

Where?

This free kick is best used from around 22 to 25 yards out, but can still work well from 21 to 28 yards out.

How?

There are 3 key factors when taking the Around The Wall Free-Kick:

Aim: The first thing you need to get right is the aim. To do this, you should line up the post behind the wall with a certain spot within the wall.

This certain spot will vary depending on how far out you are from goal, but my best success rates are as follow:

25 yards out: In the middle between the 2nd and 3rd defenders (from the outside) in the wall. If you are slightly off aim, then try to make it closer to the 2nd defender than the 3rd defender.

22 to 23 yards out: Line up the post with the inside shoulder of the 2nd defender (from the outside) of the wall.

32 yards out: Line up the post with the inside shoulder of the 3rd defender (from the outside) of the wall.

Power: The amount of power you use once again depends on how far out from goal you are. Here are my best success rates:

25 yards out: 40% power

22 to 23 yards out: 30% power

32 yards out: 50% power

Curl: Of course, if you are initially aiming off-target, then you will need to do something to curl the ball back towards goal. You can do this by holding the Left Thumbstick whilst powering-up your free-kick, and not letting of the stick until you kick the ball.

To curl the ball goalwards, and to keep the ball from going too high, you hold either Diagonal Forward-Right or Diagonal Forward-Left. If you are taking the free-kick with a righ-footed player, then you will need to hold Diagonal Forward-Left, but if you are taking the free-kick with a left-footed player, then you will need to hold Diagonal Forward-Right.

When holding you direction, make sure you don’t take notice of the camera-angle etc. You simply hold the direction as it appears on your controller. So Diagonal Forward-Left Curl is performed by holding the Left Thumbstick Diagonal Forward-Left.

Tips:

  • The further out you get from goal, the lower the success rate of this free-kick
  • The power you need to use may vary slightly from what has been recommended here depending on the power stat of your taker
  • The inital aim of your free-kick can be adjusted to something further away from goal if your taker has a higher Curve stat
  • If your opponent puts a player on the line, then you can take that player off the line by switching kick-taker. You can switch back to your original kick-taker after changing kick-taker if you so choose
  • Aim with Left-Footed players is sometimes different from Right-Footers but not always. I am not aware at this time if it is a glitch or not, but just bare in mind that if you are using a Left-Footer, you may need to aim slightly more goalwards than recommended in this tutorial.
